We are going to chalk this year's Lake Superior Performance Rally (LSPR)up as a learning experience. Many many lessons were learned... Especially when it comes to driving in snow and mud with gravel tires!

Stage 9 was tricky with the most snow and slick spots. We were actually (and still did) set a pretty good stage time even though we stopped for a car that has just gone off and didn't have the OK sign out yet. After that, our day went fairly downhill.

Stage 10 we were moving pretty good coming around a R5 into a L3 and I did not set up early enough for it and we had an off. Not just any off, but the exact same type of off as we had at LSPR in 2016 (see comparison pic). We finally got pulled out by heavy sweep for a solid 1hr stage time. Amazingly, there was zero damage to the car! We thought we would need some new panels for sure considering how hard we had to get yanked to get unstuck. We did, however, manage to take a small ecosystem with us as a souvenier under the car. 😂

The rest of the stages that day consisted of taking it easy because we really wanted to put on a show during the street stage. Despite that, we still caught a few cars, passed one, and even stopped to pull a fellow competitor out of an embankment. At some point during a spectator point, a LARGE hole had formed which we hit with the fury and got all 4 wheels off of the ground and lost our rear bumper! 😲 . Our stage times are a poor representation of the events that happened on Saturday. When we had clean air we were making decent time, but it is what it is. Rally! No regrets.

The street stage was awesome as usual! We were a little more ballsy this year and jumped a curb around a right turn and did a fantastic hairpin from what we were told. I hope someone got pictures because I had no idea that the rally car could break the tires loose like it did!

Ultimately, we got a taste of how to drive in both mud and snow (both firsts). We also made several new friends. This rally really was a battle of attrition. There are several new noises with the car that will need to be investigated. So for now we will do a teardown over the winter and reprep for 100 Acre Wood Rally next year after taking at least a month off.
